Debate on Law and Order

The Law and order in the state of Karnataka have been a major point of debate in India.

The Siddaramaiah-led Congress Government has claimed to initiate various projects to improve the current state of law and order in Karnataka. As elections are around the corner, the ministers are trying hard to tarnish each other’s public image. According to media reports, the Siddaramaiah Government claims that it has taken following initiatives to improve the law and order in the state.

  • It has disposed of 21 lakh cases in Lok Adalat by mutual consent.
  • The government has initiated 7298 legal literacy programs during its rule.
  • The government has reduced the time to file an FIR to 1 day.
  • When it comes to women safety the government claims that it has worked hard in this field also.

The BJP and Congress members frequently get involved in verbal duels. Recently, the BJP had questioned the alleged murder of Hindus in communal violence to which the Congress members responded that there was no truth in the claims. The Legislative Assembly of the state often faces ruckus due to this law and order debate. The Congress Government says they have made “exceptional progress” while the BJP claims they are too tolerant in matters of “communal violence".

The CM of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, heated up the political battle in poll-bound Karnataka by reiterating that law and order were at its worst in Karnataka. This remark was passed by Yogi Adityanath after Siddaramaiah described the UP polls as a battle between two ideologies – communalism and secularism. He further said the state of Uttar Pradesh has no issue but Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi and BJP chief Amit Shah keep on raising the same issues which are irrelevant.

The ruling party and the opposition are frequently involve in the debate and criticize each other but this has not resulted in betterment of the state of affairs in terms of law and order of the state.
